In order to fulfil Assessment Objectives 2, 3 and 4 I researched Music Magazines in order to identify their generic characteristics.

  • The headline "Paramore get caught up in Twilight Hysteria" helps the reader relate to the band as it shows they have similar movie interests.
  • The female band member is posing holding a red apple. This relates to the movie poster for Twilight which is two female hands holding a red apple. This anchors with the headline about the band's love of the film.
  • The heading above the article, states "Tennesse Pop-Punks Head Up. Soundtrack of Record Breaking movie" this relates to the article that it is above, talking about the soundtrack to the movie.
  • The Feedback section of the spread asks the audience what they think of the paramore soundtrack on Twilight. This draws the reader in to give feedback as it makes them think that their opinion matters.
  • In the top left pughole, there is information of the Kerrang! webside. This is put here as the reader is drawn to this location on the page, and it gives them information as to where they can learn more out of the magazine.
  • In the paragraph, the language is peer-to-peer as informal terms are used. This is shown when the lead singer "Hayley Williams" is called "Williams".

In order to fulfil Assessment Objectives 2, 3 and 4 I researched Music Magazines in order to identify their generic characteristics.
  • The masthead at the top says "Contents", telling the reader which page they are looking at.
  • Next to it in the left pug is a small letter from the editor concerning the front cover. This draws the readers attention to what the editor has to say as it is in the top left hand pug. Furthermore, the editor's letter is informal and peer-to-peer. This is used as it makes the reader be able to relate to the editor as if friends.
  • The list of contents have small subheadings in a different colour and font. This shows the reader which sections are which at a glance.
  • One article on the page is larger than the rest. This shows it is more important and must be seen more than the others to ensure the readers see it.
  • The quote near the masthead is from a band member from Slipknot, who are also on the front cover. This anchors them with the story and makes you want to read on as you wonder what they are talking about.
  • One article window has "Live special" printed over it. This helps bring attention to this particular article above the other articles in the page. This is done again with another article having "WIN" posted over it, which helps bring reader's attention to it.
  • In one particular article, it says "Ville Valo solves your chrismas dilemmas". This is used as it helps the readers feel more involved with the members of the band and the singer as it establishes a more personal link between them as he is solving your problems.

In order to fulfil Assessment Objectives 2, 3 and 4 I researched Music Magazines in order to identify their generic characteristics.

  • Bright, bold colours used in main headline and masthead. Draws the attention of reader to the article headlines.
  • Only yellow, red and white are used for the front cover. These colours are used as they are also the well known colours of NME.
  • Pictures of content bands at the top of the cover. Shows importance, and shows people who are considering buying it a brief contents of what bands are inside.
  • Pictures are not straight, aimed at youth. Makes it seem trendy.
  • Main article "NEW ALBUMS '09" in bold and surrounded by bright colours. Draws attention, shows importance. Parent-to-child. Tells the reader.
  • Main picture of Kasabian. Anchors with article headline at the bottom of the page which talks about Kasabian. The Main article of New Albums could also reference to the picture, saying they are one of the top albums subliminally?
  • Kasabian's quote "We've been on a psychedelic trip." Doesn't answer questions and makes readers want to know. Anchors with their tired, watered down experessions on the cover picture.
  • "In their San-Fran studio." Informal. Peer-to-peer language. Informally cuts "San-Fancisco" into "San-Fran".
  • "RIP Stooges Legend. Iggy pays tribute to Ron Asheton." Older celebrities. Markets to older readers as well as young readers. Broadens target audience to max sales figures.
